Horses posses a powerful ability to heal and to teach. They offer friendship and playful companionship while giving instant, genuine and observable responses to their interactions with people. Horses are intuitive and perceptive which makes them skillful
as therapeutic guides. These highly social beings provide insight into our behaviors,
belief systems and emotional functioning as individuals and in group interactions.
As the Founder of Transitions Equine, a farm facility in Wisconsin, U.S., where experiential psychotherapy with horses is the focus, I alternate between roles as clinical director, psychotherapist and horse professional providing services to children as young as five and adults through age 80 plus. Horses involved with this type of therapy are not ridden but rather work on the ground with clients to challenge and facilitate their emotional growth and well being. As a result, horses in otherwise good health but who can no longer be ridden may continue to live an active and productive life helping people. With over 30 years of horse ownership, keeping, showing and work with professional trainers I am thrilled to be bringing my love for horses to my profession as a psychotherapist and helping people to heal through their interactions with this most noble of animals.
I got to know Suzanne through her dream to establish an organization to link and fund horse rescue efforts around the world. We have spoken on a number of occasions about various aspects of her organization. I am inspired by her vision and look forward to working with her to educate the public about the role horses can play in our lives even after their so called ‘useful’ life is over.
